This month we are talking about Australian and Queensland Government grants that could help you start or grow your business. Up today is the Back to Work Program, which features a grant that will give businesses the opportunity to hire unemployed jobseekers in full time roles.

Back to Work Program grant

The Grant

The grant will award eligible businesses with up to $20 000 in funding when they hire a jobseeker full-time. Grants are available for multiple different situations and areas of Queensland. The area and type of jobseeker employed will determine the specific grant that can be acquired.

Back to Work South East Queensland (SEQ)

The Back to Work SEQ program includes the following regions:

  • Logan
  • Ispwich
  • Scenic Rim
  • Lockyer Valley
  • Moreton Bay
  • Somerset

There are two types of grants available under the South East Queensland Back to Work program.

Employer Support Payments

Employer Support Payments are available for businesses who hire a worker who has been unemployed for one year or longer.

Youth Boost Payments

Youth Boost payments are available for businesses who hire someone aged between 15 and 24 years, and who has been unemployed for four weeks or longer. The employee must be suitable and eligible for the advertised position.

Back to Work Regional

The Back to Work Regional program is available to eligible businesses who are located in the following areas:

  • North Queensland
  • North West Queensland
  • Far North Queensland
  • Wide Bay Burnett
  • Central Queensland
  • Mackay and The Whitsundays
  • South West Queensland

Please note that the Mature Aged Worker Boost Program is no longer taking applications, as funding expired on July 1 2018. Businesses hiring mature workers can apply for the Restart Grant, or may find another option within the Back to Work Program (detailed below) suitable.

Employer Support Payments up to $10 000 are available for employing a jobseeker who has been unemployed for between four weeks and one year, and payments up to $15 000 are available for jobseekers who have been unemployed for more than one year. The Youth Boost Payments are also available for regional businesses as well as businesses in South East Queensland. For more information, visit Business Queensland.
